Hola amigos!

We have been asked for Kallidad tabs many times, but have never got round to it! However, when we saw the following video, I knew it was time to sit down and get it done. I was so impressed by these three Italian girls playing Kallidad, and I wanted to help them with a few wrong notes I heard in their cover version! So here it is- the exact, correct tab of what I play in "Death Fiesta".

I have given basic outlines of the rhythm guitar parts, but we will have to get Tom to write out a tab, or better yet, do a video with his section played exactly correctly.

When we play live, this song is pretty much the same, I just add some more strange noises, and smash a few B notes here and there!

Please do send me videos of yourself playing- I promise I will watch them and reply!

Peace

Jacinko

DEATH FIESTA
Written by Jason John Contos, Thomas James Raven and Julian Nicholas Lardis
Lead guitar tab by Jacinko (Jason John Contos)
Standard tuning
p - pull off
s- slide
h- hammer
b- bend
CAJON INTRO

The chords that Raven plays are

B5 C5
The  B5 power chord is played at the 7th fret of the low E string. This allows you to slightly release the hold on the chord and strum, which gives you cool harmonics. When the guitar comes in, you can clearly hear these harmonics. They are fun to play! There are muted strings in between the chords, where you just lay all your fingers flat against the strings.

To do the WHACKA WHACKA WHACKA sound at the end of the breakdown, place your left hand pinky on the guitar strings over the soundhole, or pickups if you are using an electric guitar. Push the weight of your whole hand into the strings through the pinky hard and strum. WHACKA WHACKA WHACKA

HALF TIME
Same as the INTRO- just with a slower drum beat. But guitars are identical.

DRUM BREAK
(If you are playing without a drummer, play the drum rhythm on the body of the guitar if it is an acoustic guitar, or on the muted strings if you are playing electric guitar- Kallidad uses nylon string acoustics to play this song but it doesn't mean that you have to!)

RETURN
This is the same chords as the BREAKDOWN, but played fast

HECTIC RIFF

Chords are B5 and G. When the B5 chord is playing, the lead guitar plays on the B string. When the G chord is playing, the lead guitar plays only on the G string!

After this part, the lead guitar drops out, and the rhythm guitar and cajon play B B B C
Towards the end is the build up. Mute the strings with all four fingers at around the 1st, 2nd and 3rd frets. Strumming in time, gradually slide your fingers up the fretboard, and once you get to the end of the fretboard- keep going all the way up the string! It is a bit of a game to see how loud, intense and high pitched you can make the sound.
While you are right up the top of the string, you have to get ready to play the HECTIC RIFF again", and come back in right on time!
The way I do this is by looking very carefully at the B string towards the end of the build up, knowing that it is the first string I have to pick. Look at the B string and make sure your pick is close to it so you are ready to play the HECTIC RIFF perfectly in time when it starts!

FINAL CHORD

Play the chord in time with the band, including the muted strings in between chord strums. Here is the way I play the chord for maximum power.

E x   (muted by the bottom of the pinky)
B 4   (pinky barre)
G 4   (pinky barre)
D 4   (pinky barre)
A 2  (first finger)
E  x  (muted by the top fingertip of the first finger)

Pollo Negro

(taken from an email Jacinko sent to a fan on 28th April 2016)

OK here is a rough outline!

The whole way through the song, the chords are

Am G F E

The start of the song is Mr. Tom Raven playing the single notes. The whole melody is played on the high E string of the guitar. (this is Jacinko, not Raven writing, so I am not an authority on the subject, but this will get you started)

/ means SLIDE!

 Am                                                  G                                            F (Fmaj7?)                              E

E - 0 5 7/ 8 7 5 (play Am chord)  0 3 5 / 7 5 3 (play G chord) 0 1 3 / 5 3 1 (play F chord)  0 1 3 1 0

These are the basic notes played. If you listen closely you will see the rhythms sometimes change, or he will repeat certain notes or slides. At live concerts the melody will also be slightly different, but these are the chords.

Jacinko (thats me!) plays the chords
Am G Fmaj7 E

Fmaj is just the official name of what we call "Flamenco F." It is basically a normal F chord except the highest and lowest string of the guitar are allowed to ring open- creating a much cooler and darker sound- which is also easy to play! So we love using that chord!

On the album it is just a normal E chord, but live I have started adding the F note at the 4th fret of the D string to create a darker and more Spanish sounding flamenco chord.

That will get you started. See how you go! Write back if you have more questions, or send us a video of you playing the song!

Dont forget- the whole song, including the solo, is just these 4 chords, and most of the solo is based on the melody shown above (just picked much faster with a few little tricks in there.)

Peace
